    DAY 2: AMBOSELI: B, L, D.

    Full day spent in the park with morning and afternoon game drives. Optional: Full day game drives with picnic lunch boxes. Amboseli is a relatively small yet fascinating park of lush water holes and swamps contrasting against flat open plains and acacia woodlands. Elephant and plains game abound as well as the big cats such as Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. With luck, the snow-capped peak of Mt Kilimanjaro will be visible, creating a spectacular backdrop to the peacefully grazing animals. All meals and overnight stay will be at the camp/lodge.

    DAY 3: AMBOSELI/TSAVO WEST: B, L, D.

    Breakfast at the camp. Depart for Tsavo West National Park. Arrive, check-in and lunch at your lodge/camp. Afternoon game drives. From Kilaguni, great expanses of open plains stretch in all directions with Mount Kilimanjaro, the Chyulu hills, the Taita hills and Ngulia mountains on different horizons. The views from Roaring rocks and Poacher's lookout are truly spectacular. Elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, rhino and most common species of plains game and smaller mammals are present so wildlife viewing is varied but requires some patience. A visit to Mzima Springs where crystal clear water bubbles up from underground may reveal hippo and crocodile, seen from an underwater viewing hide. Bird life is extraordinarily colourful and diverse with the Ngulia mountains hosting many migratory species at certain times of the year. Spend 1 night at the camp on full board.

    DAY 4: TSAVO WEST/TAITA HILLS: B, L, D.

    Early morning game drives. Breakfast at the lodge. Depart for Taita Hills Game Sanctuary. Arrive, check-in and lunch at Taita Hills Lodge. Afternoon game drives en-route to Salt Lick Lodge. Taita Hills private Wildlife sanctuary, situated between Tsavo East and West is home to over 50 species of mammals and 300 species of birds within 28,000 acres of rolling savanna and woodland habitats. The Sanctuary is a success story in sustainable conservation where wildlife - including elephant, lion, buffalo and giraffe - thrive. Sarova Salt Lick lodge is set high up on stilts overlooking a waterhole which is floodlit at night when large numbers of animals come to drink giving a rare opportunity to view animals close up in their natural habitat. There is also an underground viewing hide right next to the waterhole which is reached from the lodge by a tunnel. Spend 1 night on full board.

Clothing

On an East African safari, you should go for comfort and convenience when it comes to your clothing. Some of the things you should remember, include:

  • Bring lightweight layers in both long and short lengths, plus socks, sleepwear, and swim wear.
  • Always take a sweater or fleece jacket, as it can get quite chilly at night and during early mornings.
  • Unless you're planning to trek, bulky hiking boots are rarely necessary. However, a comfortable pair of lightweight trainers are a must.
  • Don't forget a hat, as you'll want to protect your face and scalp from the equatorial sun.
  • It's not recommended to wear bright colors on safari, so consider buying some khaki, dark green, or darker colored clothes before your trip.

Applying for an East African Visa One of the greatest things to happen to East African tourism over the past few years is the introduction of the East African visa. This visa allows you access to Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, and it’s not only a time saver, but it also works out considerably cheaper than purchasing individual visas.

To apply for the East African Visa, you’ll need the following: A passport with at least six months validity One standard sized passport photograph A completed application form Tip: It’s important that you apply for the East African visa with the country from which you will begin your travels. The visa will be valid for 90 days from the date marked in your passport.
